All patients with large breasts are suitable for breast reduction operations. Some of them are young patients with large breasts, and some of them are middle-aged patients who give birth and whose breasts got bigger after they gained weight. Patients who have gained weight after menopause and whose breasts are enlarged are in another group. Young girls are expected to take the final shape of the breasts before making the reduction. If the breast continues to grow, it should be good to wait until it stops. As a general rule, patients not exceeding 18 years of age are not operated. In addition, breast reduction procedures can be performed in every patient unless there is a specific health problem. Breast reduction operations always leave scars or marks; Depending on the size and sagging of the breast, there is a mark around the nipple, a vertical mark below it and a horizontal mark under the nipple. In breast reduction operations, 3 basic procedures are performed: the nipple is moved upwards, the breast tissue is removed and shaped, and the excess skin tissue is removed and discarded. The length of the scar/ mark to be left will vary depending on the size of the breast, sagging and the elasticity of the patient's skin. Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and in surgery room. Duration of operation is between 2 to 3 hours. Breast reduction operations are one of the least painful operations among aesthetic surgeries. The first few days will be mild pain and can be controlled by simple painkillers.3 hours after the end of the operation, patient can eat and stand up. Usually 6 hours later, the patient is discharged from the hospital. There is a small medical dressing in the incision of the patient. He can take a bath in two days. After three days, he/she comes to the inspection and can then return to work and start his/her normal daily activities and drive. The first 3 weeks, patient should not do any sports other than walking. Again, the first 3 weeks sports bra should be worn day and night. Patient can do all sports activities except arm and chest movements after the third week. After the sixth week, all kinds of sports activities are free.
In the first 3 weeks after mammaplasty, the breasts are higher than normal and they stand upright. In addition, the vertical stitch mark under the breast appears to be shrunk. After the third week, the appearance of the breasts begins to return to normal and the breasts begin to fall into their normal position. The breasts take their exact shape in only 3 months. Subsequent checks are performed at 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and at the end of the first year unless there is a special case. Control mammography / USG is performed after one year of surgery. In the studies, breastfeeding rates of women who had breast reduction and who hadn't has been compared and the results have come out the same. It can be said that the milking rate of the patients who underwent reduction surgery is the same as normal women. Except for large and drooping breasts, reduction operations do not affect milking. There may be temporary loss of symptoms after breast reduction operations. Very large and sagging breasts may also have permanent loss of feeling, but this is not often encountered. A few months after surgery, the nipples regain their senses. In addition, many women who underwent breast reduction surgery stated that their breasts were more sensitive than their pre-operation breasts. The most common problems after reduction are; bad scars, not sufficiently reduction of the nipples, asymmetries and nipples being higher or lower than they should be. With careful planning and careful surgical technique, all of these problems can be overcome. In particular, this problem is more common in smokers. Such problems can spontaneously be resolved with medical dressing and do not prevent daily activities of patients.
