The sagging and relaxed arms are one of the greatest sources of unhappiness of middle-aged women. This problem becomes more noticeable especially when wearing sleeveless clothing in summer. Regular sports, skin care and weight control are not enough to stop aging on the arms. Arm tension can be applied to patients who are very uncomfortable with loosening and sagging.
Arm stretching is a surgical procedure aimed at relieving the excess of skin and loosening on the elbows. The purpose in surgery is not only to thin the arm, but also to make it more tense.
Arm stretching operations are usually performed for women over 40 years of age. Especially after weight gain, the relaxation on the elbow increases. Some skin types tend to relax. In such patients the problem may occur at an earlier age. An L-shaped incision starts from under the armpit and goes down to the elbow is applied. In general, only the skin is removed and the tension of the arm is increased. In patients with very thick arms, liposuction can also be added to this process.
Arm stretching operations are performed in the operating room under general anesthesia or under heavy sedatives (sedation). Arm stretching takes about one hour. Arm stretching operations are not painful. After arm stretching, patients are usually sent to their homes on the same day. The first two days, they have bandages on the stitches. Two days later patients can take a bath. Since the stitches are all under the skin there is no need stitches to be removed. In the first three weeks, patients should not have excessive arm movements. After the third week, sports are allowed except the arm movements. After the sixth week, all kinds of activities are free.
The biggest problem after arm stretching is the remaining marks/scars. The marks are not visible from the inside, as they remain on the inside of the arms, but they appear when the patient raises their arms. After six months, the scars are largely faded, but they never completely disappear. Patients should be warned about the trace/mark. Some patients have tattoos to hide the traces. After stretching, the aging process continues and there is some loosening of the arms. Weight gain can accelerate this process. But it never returns to its original state. It is important for patients to pay attention to their weight and to have regular sports and skin care in order to protect the outcome of the operation.
