The hair transplantation process is the transplantation of hair follicles into the hair loss area. The transplanted hair is the hair follicles that are located on the back and sides of the hair. These follicles are not exposed to hair loss for life. The transplanted hair roots are the living hair of the person and grow as person's natural hair. Hair loss is one of the most common problems in women as well as men and can be applied to women as well.  There may be a difference of 5-10% between hair growth when hair transplantation is applied to men. In women, this hair loss increases up to 10-25%. This does not mean that women cannot be transplanted. But the rate of hair loss in women will be higher than in men. Eyebrow sowing, beard cultivation and mustache cultivation can also be done with these procedures. FUE technique is basically the process of taking the hair from the donor area one by one. In many clinics, the inner diameter is made by micro-motor method with needles of 0.8 mm-1 mm diameter. These thick motor needles leave a mark like staple hole in the donor area and cause a rough and sparse appearance in the planting area because of the thick roots. Thin FUE needles used in our clinic with a diameter of 0.4 mm do not leave marks in donor area. It allows both natural and frequent planting. Also, more hair follicles can be transplanted.

In hair transplantation, mainly two methods are applied;

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

It is a procedure performed by a team of plastic surgery specialists and nurses under local anesthesia. First of all, hair transplantation is planned to shorten the hair of the patient and is wiped with antiseptic solution. The donor region is then anesthetized with local anesthetic agents. Pain is felt only during this local anesthesia application. A mild sedation may be given during local anesthesia to reduce the feeling of pain. Hair grafts are taken individually with thin FUE needles of 0.4 mm in diameter. Each hair graft includes 1-4 hair strands. Hair grafts collected from the donor area are stored in special glass containers with saline. Small channels are then opened to the areas to be transferred to the hair and the hair roots taken from the donor area are inserted into these channels. The area where the hair is taken is closed with a bandage made applied from the forehead. On the 2nd day, the person is called to the clinic for a hair wash. All medical dressings are opened and how to wash is shown to the patient. Hair transplanted are is washed with special shampoos and lotions. The person washes his/her hair every day in the first week for the quick removal of crusting occurred in scalp.

Approximately half of the hair in the area of hair transplantation fall out in the first month, this situation is called shock fall out. Fallen out hair starts to rise back in 3 months and continues to rise every month for up to 10 months. Non-fallen out hair continues to grow and a slight density occurs at 2-3 months of age. If it is thought that the hair will be 1 cm in average per month, it is necessary to wait an average of 6 months to see satisfactory results and wait for 12 months to see the final result.

Advantages of the FUT Method:

4000 hair grafts can be transplanted in each session. 4000 hair grafts correspond to 8000 - 10 000 hair strands. Since the donor area recovers very fast after the transplantation to be done in our clinic with 0.4 mm needles, the second session can be performed to an untransplanted area within 1-2 months after the transplantation. It is not necessary to wait 6-12 months for the 2nd session like FUE or FUT technique applied by micromotor method. Since there is no surgical incision in the donor area, the recovery is very fast and there is no loss of feeling or surgical scars. Within a few days, the tiny holes in the area where the hair follicles are removed, are closed without leaving any marks. In cases where there are not enough hair follicles in the scalp, hair follicular units can be taken from different parts of the body such as chest, back and arm and transferred to the area where hair loss is observed. However, in practice, covering hair loss with hair always provides a better aesthetic appearance and frequency.

Since the hair follicle is very thin in the FUE technique, it gives a more natural appearance in the planting area. The only disadvantage of the FUE technique is the necessity of cutting the hair short.

In the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) technique, hair follicles are taken from the back of the scalp with a surgical method. The hair in the skin sample taken is divided into two, three, three and four hair follicles and these hair roots are transferred to the hair loss area.

Advantages of FUT Technique;

In fact, after the extensive application of the FUE hair transplantation technique and the experience gained, the FUT technique was almost abandoned. There is no advantage except that the hair need not be cut short. In every aspect, FUE technique is way better than FUT technique.

Disadvantages of FUT Technique;

• The scar in the area of hair follicles may be visible and may even heal badly as a hairless area.
• There may be permanent numbness or loss of feeling in the donor area.
• It is necessary to wait at least 6 months for a second session.
• Since the hair roots are thick, a rough and rare hair transplantation can be done.
• Maximum 2000 hair follicles can be transplanted in a session.
